Air Doctor has become a must-have for all travelers – we connect you to a global network of over 20,000 professional medical practitioners spanning 74 countries all through an easy-to-use app.
Travelers can browse for a local doctor who speaks their language and book a telemedicine, in-person, or hotel consultation right from their mobile phones.
But how does payment work exactly? Will your health insurer cover the costs?
Let’s take you through everything you need to know.
How Air Doctor Helps Travelers
Letโs say youโre traveling abroad, and you get sick. First of all, it can be extremely stressful, especially if you donโt speak the local language or know how the local healthcare system works.
In addition, many insurance providers donโt have access to outpatient healthcare networks. So as a result, many travelers end up going to a hospital when all they need is a simple outpatient appointment with a GP or specialist.
Air Doctor is accessible to all travelers through our mobile app (iOS and Android) or web app, regardless of whether or not they have insurance with one of our partners; although the exact user experience depends on whether or not they have insurance, and if so, what policy they have.
How Does Air Doctor and Your Health Insurer Work Together?
Essentially, how Air Doctor consultations are paid for depends on the circumstances:
If your insurance provider is partnered with Air Doctor:
If your insurance provider is partnered with Air Doctor, they can opt to offer a completely cashless customer journey. This means the traveler doesnโt need to pay for the consultation at all. Air Doctor simply pays the consultation fee on your behalf and deals with your insurer themselves.
There are cases where your policy entails a deductible. In such cases, Air Doctor will charge you either the deductible or the doctor’s fee, whichever is less.
In rare cases, you will have to pay the doctor and will be reimbursed either by Air Doctor or your insurer.
If your insurance provider isnโt partnered with Air Doctor:
Letโs say you have insurance with an insurer that isn’t partnered with Air Doctor; you would still need to pay for the consultation yourself and arrange reimbursement through your insurerโs claims process.
If you donโt have insurance:
And of course, if you donโt have insurance, you must pay for the consultation yourself via Air Doctor. But consultation prices through Air Doctor are 11% less on average than going to a private physician yourself.

How Does the Air Doctor Claim Process Work?
Claim settlement differs case-by-case with each insurance provider. Usually, it follows these guidelines:
- If your insurer has our cashless solution, there are NO OUT-OF-POCKET EXPENSES or CLAIMS at all.
- If your insurer has a partial solution, you will either pay a deductible or file a claim after the consultation.
- If you use Air Doctor as a private user, you will pay directly through Air Doctor’s platform and file a claim with your insurer if applicable.
Regardless of whether you access the platform through your insurance provider or by paying it yourself, Air Doctor is here for you when you need it most.
